Changing Their Lives Forever! African American Self-Help Foundation was founded in 1981 on the principles that each life is of infinite value to God and that we have both the opportunity and the responsibility to affirm that value through our actions. For the past two and a half decades, we have been working to help others overcome difficulty and achieve lives of dignity and value. Our focus is on children of African descent, whether here in the US through our work with the children of single mothers, or on the African continent, through our work with AIDS orphans, education and community health and development. Help Needed to Save Lives in Haiti The recent earthquake in Haiti not only killed tens of thousands of people and destroyed countless houses, churches, and government buildings, it devastated a whole nation, causing suffering on an unbelievable scale. Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere, where 50 % of all children die before age 15, 70% live below the poverty line and malnutrition rates soar, was desperately poor before the earthquake hit. Now Haiti is faced with large-scale destitution and Haiti's children look towards an uncertain, if not hopeless future. more>> Our Mission  To provide emergency financial assistance to single African-American working mothers.
