African American Self-Help Foundation has been serving the needs of poor African and African-American children and their families since 1981. The following "Report Card" provides a snapshot of our program activities over the past year.

ORPHANED & ABANDONED CHILDREN
Supported children's homes in Sudan, South Africa, Kenya and Uganda, providing loving nurture, shelter, food, clothing, medical care and education to children orphaned or abandoned by AIDS, war and other devastation. |

FEEDING PROGRAMS
Provided thousands of meals to other hungry children through partnership with locally-run feeding centers in Kenya, Uganda and Zambia (this doesn't include our bulk food shipments). |

AID SHIPMENTS
Shipped $3.5 million in medical and dental equipment, vegetable seeds and agriculture equipment to projects in Africa. |

COMMUNITY WATER PROGRAMS
Funded new community water projects in Kenya, providing life-saving clean water to thousands of children and their families. |

COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAMS
In Africa, provided HIV/AIDS prevention training to several thousand participants, conducted hygiene seminars for mothers, and provided immunizations for thousands of children.

EDUCATIONAL & TRAINING PROGRAMS
Supported several schools, vocational training, and tuition assistance programs in Kenya and Uganda. |

MENTORING, LIFE AND WORK SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
Provided intensive mentoring support and life
skills development to several dozen African American
single working mothers. |

EMERGENCY GRANT ASSISTANCE
Provided some 38 one-time grants to African American single mothers to assist them in meeting emergency cash shortages affecting the their children, including rent, car and utility bill payments, and auto repair. |
